Evening Musings

Quote of the day from Jonathan Garthwaite at C-Log-"It may be Washington State but there ought to be a rule that says people who do worse than Dennis Kucinich in an election must quit politics forever."

Joe Carter has been highlighting South Dakota's efforts to ban abortion by stating that life begins at conception. It will be interesting to see how Sandy Baby (as John Riggins once drunkenly called her) deals with this one when it gets to the Supremes. I don't think they have formally ruled on when life begins; legal experts, feel free to correct me.

I'm not sure how many wags have used this line for the Governator's budget, but Ahnold did play Mr. Freeze in one of the Batman movies.

Here's what Justice Blackmun wrote in Roe v. Wade:

When those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy, and theology are unable to arrive at any consensus, the judiciary, at this point in the development of man's knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.
Which, biologically speaking, is complete hogwash.

In 1989, in Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, 492 U.S. 490, the Court did uphold a Missouri statute stating that life begins at conception, ruling that states may define when life begins as long as it doesn't affect the right to abortion.

I could not have said it better. Excellent Jason -- this comment should be bookmarked and highlighted.
