Morning Musings

QE2's turns 80 today; she still has a decade before she passed Victoria as the longest reigning monarch. Most folks don't remember any other monarch; the references to the King's Highway in Canada seem odd, since many of those roads have never seen one.

Here's at least one good application for MySpace; they caught a would-be Columbine in Kansas from the blog entries of one of the plotters. It's gotten a truckload of bad press, but here, it served a public purpose.

Tony Snow is a candidate for the WH Press Secretary job-

Mr. Snow's deliberations played out on Fox News on Thursday night, when be acknowledged the downside of the job. "You get a massive cut in pay," he said, adding that a press secretary can get treated "like a piƱata," and that the job would cut into time with his children.

On the plus side, he said, "You become part of something that's very rare, which is an inner White House circle."

From a political point of view, I'd like to see him give it a shot; his gentle wit would work well in the press room.

Nice WaPo graphic on gas price componants. Remember that the gas station has about a twelve-cent mark-up; the rest is going elsewhere, so don't take it out on the station owner.

Well, I'm off to Tampa. That's all until Sunday unless I run into some free WiFi along the way.
