Al-Arabiya's reporting that Saddam was hanged about 10PM EST. The execution was taped.
It feels sad. Not that Saddam will be missed, but that he ordered the brutalities that earned him his trip to the gallows. It's a fitting end; rough justice for a rough, nasty guy.
I had to restrain myself from hanging pun titles; it just didn't fit tonight. I do pray that he rest in peace, that God may give him grace despite a despicable life.
I would rather have seen him consigned to a chain-gang, spending his days grinding rocks somewhere...

Thanks Mark -- I felt exactly the same way. The guy was evil and a monster, no doubt about it, but at the end of it all it means eternity spent in the pit.
