We've been in a series in Jeremiah at church, and the notes in the bulletin (or BIPOP for Big Important Piece of Paper, as it goes by at our church) had an interesting typo. Verse 1:16 in the NIV goes as follows-
I will pronounce my judgments on my people
because of their wickedness in forsaking me,
in burning incense to other gods
and in worshiping what their hands have made.
The commentary in the BIPOP slipped on that last part and had "worshiping what their hand shave made."
Hand shave? What do you get from a hand shave? If your a hirsute fellow like myself, some hair and maybe some dead skin, good for a nice, yucky hairball.
Pause. Get out your best basketball jeer voice and say "Hair-Ball! Hair-Ball!"
We have a tendency to throw up quite a few hairballs in worship, playing up the hairballs that our hand shaves made. I'll leave the details of those furry spheres up to the Peanut Gallery to ponder.
