I had this Mark Shea post in the stories-to-blog folder for a few weeks. The headline is "Does Evolutionary Science Disprove the Faith?" As a good Catholic topologist, his view is no-"one can be a perfectly orthodox Catholic and affirm the doctrine of the Fall without having to believe that Genesis 3 is a newspaper account."
However, many if not most evangelicals would question the perfect orthodoxy of an old-earther. Even there, it should not disprove ones faith. Our faith, as best I understand it, is in God, not a particular interpretation of the Bible.
Jesus become incarnate, dying for our sins and rising again is where our salvation lies. That's something modern science can't take a whack at. Even if a young-earth six-day Genesis is called into question, it shouldn't disrupt one's grander faith in a risen Christ. Even if the days of Genesis are eras, Jesus still died for us and still is the great I Am.
