1 “For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the LORD of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.” 2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. 3 You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the LORD of hosts.
I went with NASB today, since the NIV of this went with "healing in its rays" in verse 2. That's an interesting tweak to play off of the sun, but it does little to play off the Son.
Jesus didn't shoot healing laser beams out of His eyes; at least, that incident didn't make the cut of any of the Gospels, even the apocryphal ones. One of his followers did get healing from the corner of His cloak, which is an alternative meaning of "wing" in Hebrew.
Malachi shoots down the complaints that the bad guys never seem to get theirs, that God must like (or at least tolerate) them. The bad guys will get theirs in due time, even if that time is in the hereafter.
