Vaclav Havel passed on today; he was the leader of the Czech opposition that got rid of their Communist government in 1989. That "Velvet Revolution" is one of the models for the Arab Spring protests of this year.
Having seen totalitarianism up-close, the writer-turned-statesman had little love for communism or any over-powerful government; that's not uncommon in the leaders who grew up under Soviet rule.
