8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
That's refreshing to here. We are to strive for perfection, but won't quite get there in this life. There are some folks in the Holiness camp who will claim otherwise, but I've yet to see a sinless man or woman; even the best of us will be selfish at times or have anger that isn't quite righteous indignation.
So, we're in good company when we screw up. The classic line on this meme come from Martin Luther
God does not save those who are only imaginary sinners. Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong (sin boldly), but let your trust in Christ be stronger, and rejoice in Christ who is the victor over sin, death, and the world.
Jesus will let Himself be seen through our flaws and despite our flaws.
