9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.
An old Tom Lehrer line comes to mind-"I know that there are people who do not love their fellow man, and I hate people like that!" We can wind up doing that, especially when you're flying your prophetic freak flag at full staff. The people who care not for the Good News are bad news in that setting.
The trick is hating the disbelief and attending vices without hating the person holding the disbelief and exhibiting the vices. Easier said than done.
