It's sketchy, but shots were fired at the hotel concert hall where incoming Quebec premier Pauline Marois was giving a victory speech; shades of Bobby Kennedy. Thankfully, things happened well away from her. Pray that everyone injured survives, including civil government.
Update 12:47-Lovely-it's a disgruntled Anglo-
TV footage outside showed flames burning at the back of the club and a heavyset, bespectacled man wearing shorts and with a balaclava over his head.
"The English have woken up. That's enough," the arrested man said in French, with a heavy accent, as he was walked away in handcuffs. Montreal police later said a 50-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion that he fired and critically injured two people.
Update 1:12-One of the victims is dead. Somehow, I feel that Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire will get a Quebec remix. Also, the locale was the Metropolis concert hall. I assumed it was a hotel, since that always seems where such victory parties are held.
Bain is under guard in hospital, he has been transferred over to the Royal Vic (Royal Victoria) apparently he is bi-polar, described as quirky but who associates said had never been violent. The G&M article you linked had a quote from a neighbour near his camp: "he’s a devout Christian who reads the bible regularly."
The PQ are back in power, all be it traversing new territory with a minority government. Charest resigned today.
