Old school won out in the war over WAR (wins above replacement) as Miguel Cabrera snagged AL MVP, 22-6 over Mike Trout. Cabrera won the Triple Crown and led Detroit to the AL title but Trout could well be said to be the better player; when you add baserunning and defense to the mix, Trout had one of the great all-around years in baseball history, better than Cabrera's year. WAR has Cabrera third behind Robinson Cano, but a first-in-a-generation-plus Triple Crown was hard to turn down.
