I've got an eye on Alberto. It's going to come ashore well north of Tampa and my once-and-possibly-future stomping grounds of Lakeland, but the outer bands bring bad thunderstorms and tornadoes even if the storm surge by the eye isn't all that fearsome.
They had a tornado reported near Bartow this morning; it's Polk County's seat. The report had it 13 miles south of Winter Haven, which is in the middle of nowhere (the folks in Alturas might beg to differ, but it's rather rural), but would be about five miles southeast of Bartow. The school principals were slated to have a big double-mandatory set of meetings through Thursday in Bartow; they likely were scrambling towards the tornado shelters earlier today.

It'll likely be after those meetings that I'll hear about the jobs I interviewed for. I'm in wait-and-see mode; I'll wait to look for teaching jobs elsewhere until I hear back from my batch of interviews from the last two weeks.

John Edwards ahead of Hillary 30-26 in Iowa? That was a poll-poll, not a straw poll, so it's less likely to be stacked by a flavor-of-the-moment among the party faithful. Kerry lags well back with 12%, followed by Iowa Gov. Vilsack at 10%. The prophet has no honor in his home state; not a good sign for a dark-horse Vilsack race.
We may have to hold off on the coronation of Queen Hillary; there looks to be a possible race for the nomination.

I'm not a theater buff, but the Tonys were on in the background last night. Folks north of the 49th got to brag on Canadian-born The Drowsy Chaperon, which won awards for script and original score as well as best musical actress. However, best new musical went to Jersey Boys; the Four Seasons greatest hits with a libretto attached. That seems to be a growing trend, with Broadway musicals based on Billy Joel's (Movin' Out) and ABBA's (Mamma Mia) portfolios prior to Jersey Boys.

Interesting sports weekend. The Mavs are up 2-0, the Tigers managed to return from a nasty Chicago-Toronto road trip still 1.5 games up on the White Sox, and the Tigress was a long-putt away from getting into a Women's open playoff; Wie three-putted on 18 and finished two back.
The nice footnote on the Tiger's 10-5 win at Toronto yesterday was Joel Zumaya first career save. With the 102-MPH heat he was bringing yesterday, it won't be his last. I would not be surprised to see him be the Tiger's closer before the season's over, especially the way Todd Jones has struggled this year.
