I'm working my way back into blogging shape after a combination of a bad sinus/ear infection and a bad back have had me out of commission for most of this week so far.
At least I'm in better shape than the Tigers, who are now short their RF, 3B, 2B and main setup man. That's more than you can fill in via rent-a-player trades at the fast-approaching trade deadline. They might be able to find a Toledo call up ready for prime-time like they did when Boesch got called up when Guillen went down for the first time, but getting three newbies to play up to playoff-race specs is a bit much to ask.

Bengals-the Musical. Starring T.O. and Ochocinco with Ickey Woods as Mugsy. It's a good pickup for Cincy, if he can keep playing a good possesion WR and lob-magnet in the end zone. Since we lived in the Cincy coverage area in Lexington the last two seasons, Eileen and I have a soft spot for them; Eileen has had them as her favorite non-local team since she was a kid.

An official welcome to the Pac-12. No word as to whether the ten-team Big 12's commish's request to swap names with the twelve-team Big 10 will be answered affirmatively.

I usually don't go out of my way to actively dislike teams, but I may make an exception with USC. They've been Yankee-esque in the way they win so often, so they are easy to dislike as the big bully on the block, but their ethical lapses under both the Carrol and Kiffin regimes make whoever's playing the Trojans my favorite non-native-fan schools (UofM, MSU, CMU and Kentucky {yeah, I picked up the bug while in Lexington} at present).
Kiffin was a jerk at Knoxville in his one year there and just hired away one of the Titan's coaches to be his offensive coordinator; the Titans are suing. I don't think Kiffin needs any help in being offensive; he actually is starting to make Al Davis, who fired him a while back, look good. That's not easy to do.
