Should Cam Newton make it to the Pro Bowl? Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees are the consensus 1 and 2 QBs on the NFC roster, but Newton has a case for the three slot ahead of Eli Manning.
Newton ranks just ninth in the NFC in the passer rating, but third in the fan voting with 508,522 fans, about 57,000 more than the Lions' Matthew Stafford and nearly 190,000 ahead of Eli Manning of the Giants.
The problem with the passer rating is that it doesn't factor in a QB's running. ESPN has been playing with a propriatry Total QB Rating that factors in rushing; that puts him 8th.
However, there is another metric that could be used; fantasy football points. There, he comes in second to Rodgers, nudging out Brees. He's the #14 rusher in the conference as well as the #9 passer.
Yes, fantasy football points aren't a particularly scientific metric to use, but they're less subjective than the TQR systems, which grades players on a play-by-play basis, weighting things towards clutch time, so that a 20 yard pass for a game-winning TD is worth more than a 20 yard TD during garbage time. However, the fantasy system might be more objective.
If you do that then include Tebow, for teaching hes bosses Football the real way.
