There seems to be a headline a day out of Detroit after they lost the World Series. Leyland reups, as did Peralta and Dotel. Dombroski announced that Delmon Young and Jose Valverde wouldn't be asked back and that Anibal Sanchez would be welcomed back at the right price.
All solid moves; the most questionable one was Peralta, who had an off 2012 regular season. However, he plays solid shortstop and if the Tigers were brimming with great shortstops in the minors, one of them would have been slapped in at second this year.
With Young gone, his caddy, Don Kelly, is gone as well. He got optioned to Toledo and opted to go free-agent rather than accept the demotion. His game might lend itself more to a National League club, where he can serve as a pinch-hitter and double-switch into just about any spot in the lineup. With good fielders in Berry, Dirks and Sanchez having the corner outfield spots nailed down for 2013 and with Nick Castellanos getting groomed to take one corner outfield spot as well, there's little room at the inn for Kelly.
