Most of the Peanut Gallery can probably recite John 3:16 from memory. What about the next verse?
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
I'm having to refrain from attaching the moral outrage of the day from this post, since the outrageous folks don't know any better. If Jesus is not on your radar, His standards aren't on it, either, so some of the behavior we'll disagree with seems right (or at least unobjectionable) to them. They'll wind up doing the wrong things and punishing the right things due to not being on the same page with Jesus.
By focusing on the behavior, we miss the root cause, which is not understanding God. One of Jesus last utterances was "Forgive them, for they know not what they do." It's the lack of faith that creates the lack of understanding that creates the bad behavior.
Jesus declares eminence domain here, for unlike the world who condemns our property, he comes and redeems it to His service.
