Carolina QB Cam Newton was trying to get a rise out of Lions DT Ndamukong Suh heading into their Sunday meeting by repeatedly calling him Donkey Kong. So far, Suh isn't taking Newton's bait. Suh does have a track record of getting more than his share of flags for late and/or rough hits on quarterbacks, but he's not quite the dunce that the classic video game antagonist was cast as-
Another, more credible story claims Miyamoto looked in a Japanese-English dictionary for something that would mean "stubborn gorilla",[27] or that "Donkey" was meant to convey "silly" or "stubborn"; "Kong" was common Japanese slang for "gorilla".[20]:238 A rival claim is that he worked with Nintendo's export manager to come up with the title, and that "Donkey" was meant to represent "stupid and goofy".[32]:48–49 In the end, Miyamoto stated that he thought the name would convey the thought of a "stupid ape".[34]
If Mr. Newton wants to find a real-world Donkey Kong, he might be better served to look across the line of scrimmage at practice at DE Greg Hardy, who makes Ray Rice look like a Promise Keepers' poster boy-
In her testimony in front of the judge, his former girlfriend, Nicole Holder, said the 6-4 Hardy flung her from a bed, threw her into a bathtub, then tossed her on a futon covered with rifles.
Holder said Hardy ripped a necklace he had given her off her neck, threw it into a toilet and slammed the lid on her arm when she tried to retrieve it. Hardy then dragged her by the hair from room to room, she said, before putting his hands around her throat.
Hardy's still playing, since the abuse he's been convicted of wasn't posted on TMZ and got the NFL covering their backsides in record time. I'm not so sure the NFL is covering things up in l'affair Rice, but they under-reacted at the initial case (2 games) and overreacted when the video went public (fired and indefinite suspension) in order to do a quick CYA.
Meanwhile Chris Davis is getting 25 games off for using Addearall; his permission slip from MLB to take the ADHD drug wasn't renewed and since it falls into an amphetamine bucket, he'll miss the rest of the season and the first round of the playoffs.
In what universe do those three cases make sense?
