While I was feasting on a season of basketball and football overlap, we had a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs shot up by a rifle-toting older guy, killing a policeman and two civilians before surrendering. He's been IDed as Robert Lewis Dear; CNN has him as age 59.
It's interesting that I haven't seen any background on the guy yet. Often, mass murders have a cyber paper trail that can give a clue on where they're at and what they're like, but even Drudge has no juicy details on him. It's possible that he didn't have an online presence to track down; a quick Google notes that he's from North Carolina but not much else to go on.
At 59, he's older than most shooters of this type. That age might indicate why he might not have a cyber-train to track, although he's not that much older than I am. North Carolina would lean him a notch to the right on average, at least as compared with Colorado. The fact he was IDed at 9PM Mountain time would make the "He was a quiet guy, kept to himself" interviews on hold until today, for you're not going to wake people up in the wee hours of the morning for background interviews.
Without that information, we're grasping at straws. He could be a deranged conservative or just deranged. It could be a response to the flak PP has gotten as of late or something as personal as having talked his granddaughter into an abortion, or it could have easily have been the King Soopers grocery store next door (I'd shop at other King Soopers while out in CO visititng my inlaws, so that part was spooky) that he took out.
Meanwhile, we have three dead folks, including a police officer who was a ice-dancing champ in his younger days; Colorado Springs is a Olympic-caliber skating hotbed as memory serves, so that would fit into the movie-version almost too well. There might well be other dead bodies coming out of the building as inventory items or medical waste, but that irony will be ignored. Grieving for the dead, large and small, is the order of the day.
